Friends With You(FWY) is founded by two Miami-based artists, Sam Borkson and Arturo Sandoval. Their work is so playful, colorful, cute and childlike that I almost mistook them for Japanese designers. FWY does various works, form prints, motion graphics, installation to toys. They also design 4 rooms for Hotel Fox.
When you feel dull, bored, or even pissed, go visit there website, it will help!
Friends With You是由兩個邁阿密的藝術家 Sam Borkson和Arturo Sandoval所成立。

McDonald's Goes Guerrilla
To promote the new largest burger, McDonald's created gigantic posters in napkin form. If you are thinking that these posters are wasted economically, you might have to think about that the posters turn everyone who picks up the napkin into a moving poster.
Moreover, the posters just made a big name for itself from free media exposure.
I'm lovin' it....I mean the posters not burgers.

Words matter - The relationship between form and content
This is a nice, cheap but clever TVC from Gazette newspaper. The creator plays with the history background, content, and form of the content. The idea about editing contents or texts reflect today's IT era that contents can be edited and separated form the the layout.
This ad. reminded me the Economist TVC when they edited Bush's speech about the war against Iraq.

Another example using editing technique is an old Smirnoff TVC. The creator used it to show the idea about Smirnoff distills their Vodka for 3 times.

3ermundo
3ermundo is a Barcelona based design company. I love their illustration particularly. Those imaginary creatures are super cute and impressive. It’s also nice to see how they apply their unique style into commercial use. Don’t forget to check out their personal work too.

Nathan Love
Nathan Love’s works have different styles, but one thing in common is that they are all fun and cute. In addition, their website demonstrates their style perfectly. I also love what they say about their work “Our mission is simple... have FUN, do GREAT work, and make PEOPLE SMILE...”
Nathan Love

Two years ago, when people asked me why I wanted to study interactive design, the answer is “because it sounds cool.” Although later I realized that I am too “cool” for interactive design, I still have to admit that interactive design is HOT (are you happy now, Uom?).
Anyway, there aren’t many hard-core interactive design companies in Taiwan, Storynest and Techart Group are two of them. By hard core, I mean doing something other than websites, banners, and flash games.
The founder of Storynest, Hsin-Chien Huang, is one of the pioneering interactive artists in Taiwan. He likes to use stories to express his thoughts about lives. So his work usually has a strong narrative character. Techart group, according to their website, is “formed in 2004 by AI Republic and CS groups. It's powered by participating partners' creative design, chipset programming application, and interactive multimedia creation.”
One good thing about those two companies is that they hold a seminar together every other week. In this regular event, they invite guest speakers form art and design related field to share their experience and thoughts. Unfortunately, it is a closed event, but that’s the only way to keep the quality.

Learn French - Culture in advertising
Stereotype sarcasm and culture conflict are classic jokes in comedy. A touch of culture references can turn a boring message from language institute into fun ads.
Keep in mind when you use culture context in your works about:
1. Political correctness - Does it offend anyone 'too' hard?
2. Intuitive aspect - Is information too deep that only Harvard professors would understand?
3. Fun factor - Is it funny?
4. Issue age - Is the issue too old?

Zune Art
Well, I don't know if Zune is lame or not(I guess so). The campaign Zune Art is really awesome. I do feel happy for Microsoft, because finally, they realized that there are better ways to spent million dollars than putting starbursts and ribbons on the packages :p
Here are some examples:
“Intergalactic Swap Meet” by againstallodds
"Endless Cookie" by SSSR
"Moodbot" by Rob Shaw
"Two Little Birds" by Motion Theory
"Bunny" by Suzanne Deakin
Just to name a few. There are also interviews and music information on the Zune Art website, worthy checking out.

In-game Advertising - Sony the pioneer
Finally, VDO games are treated as mainstream media where advertising messages take place, like prime time TV show or drive time radio show.
Sony interactive launched in-game ad unit focused on managing ads in the company's games both PCs and consoles. Sony believes that its games have enough fan base as clear target audiences for the clients to sell their products to. In-game ads will with big-hit sport games such as NFL Madden, NHL, NBA by embedding real ads with the game environments.
According to the Yankee group, in-game ad market will grow to $971.3 million in 2011 from $77.7 million in 2006.
Lately, Sony just launched "Pain" designed to serve ads mainly to be download via PS network for $9.99. This action game expects to be successfully as a game and an ad medium.
Well, whether we should believe Sony's claim or not, it's not going to hurt to keep in-game ads in mind when you design a branding strategy.
Isn't cool to buy a coke can to heal your Final Fantasy character?

Fulltank
Fulltank is a CA based design firm. Their works are characterized by their character animation. I love how they merge traditional animation with digital application and life action to give their project a warm and lively look and feel.
There is an interview on Motionographer about their project for Zune Arts films campaign. It provides many details about how this spot is shaped; please make sure to take a look.

Psyop
Even you haven’t heard about Psyop, you must have seen their work. Just turn on TV, the hot Coke Cola Happiness Factory is one of their portfolio. They have produced so many amazing spots to answer different kinds of needs. Below are just some examples:
(I posted Youtube video for convenience sake, but I strongly recommend checking out their gorgeous website)

Match Bond
Ironically, I started to notice Taiwanese designers after I studied abroad. Probably it’s because I took everything around me for granted until I was away from them. Anyway, after I’ve seen some designed works from so-called “Europe, America, Japan and other developed countries,” I can recognize that art and design in Taiwan is drastically improved. Don’t get me wrong. I didn’t mean we are the best or others suck, but I do feel that we should give ourselves some credit. Umm…, my introduction is getting too long and far…
Back to the topic, Match Bond is founded by a group of people who are obsessed about the feeling of igniting a match and the smell of a burning stick. In 2005, they decided to get into this dying industry (or dead industry)—selling matches, and lunched their first set of products in 2006.
Their products is a good example of how a good package design can make an ordinary thing extraordinary. For me, I don’t really care if they are selling matches or candies; I bought their products because of those cute characters on the box. On the other hand, matches do make this brand stand out ‘cause it’s the only brand in the market. Also, I’d like to mention the matchbox “Double Pipe(No.010)”, as I think how they utilize the action of rubbing a match into the matchbox design is brilliant.
By the way, as I was searching for their website (I couldn’t find it on google!?), I found another company with the same name in Chinese. Just to clarify that they are two different companies.
(p.s. “Europe, America, Japan and other developed countries” is a common phrase that we usually use when we want to mention countries batter than us, although Europe is not a country.)

Lantern Fishes by Adam Gault
People around me all know that I have problems remembering people’s names and faces. But after I saw Adam Gault’s Lantern Fishes, his name stuck in my head. I saw the piece through Motionographer, there is also a very interesting interview there.
What I love the most about the piece is simplicity. This piece is not that kind of ambitious work, yet everything is so perfectly done. The animation of those fishes, the transitions from one fish to another, or the small particles’ floating in the water….Man! It’s just so beautiful that I couldn’t move my eyes.
However, one thing I don’t like is the ending. I feel the red color and the cells are a bit more graphic look and don’t mach with the rest, which has more surreal feeling. Just my two cents.
Anyway, this piece is definitely one of my favorite films.
